Questions
What is News Challenge?
A free news app. Every day it reads the most important headlines aloud, then helps you remember them with quick games: real or fake, fill in the blank, and fake news hunter. You can also learn a language with local news from 40+ countries.
Is there a news app that reads the news aloud for older people?
That is what this app is made for: big text and big buttons. Open it, press one play button, and today's most important stories are read out one by one, no small print to read. You can make the text even larger, and there is a dark mode. It's completely free.
Is it free?
Yes. It's free and supported by ads. There's no subscription and nothing to unlock.
Where does the news come from? Could it be fake?
The news lists only use real headlines from each country's media, with the publisher's own summary and a link to the full story. Fake headlines appear only inside the games. They're written by AI, and every answer shows the real headline and what gave the fake one away.
When does it update?
Each country gets a new set around 2 PM local time, covering that day's morning and midday news.
Can I listen to the news while driving or working?
Yes. Once it starts, lock the screen or switch to another app and the news keeps playing to the end, which suits work, commutes and chores. If you are driving, press play before you set off and do not handle your phone on the road.
How can I learn a language and practice listening with the news?
Open Learn and pick a country, such as Japan, Korea, France or Spain, to hear that country's local news of the day. Listen at normal or slow speed, and translate any headline with one tap. A few minutes a day of listening practice with real news.
Which countries and languages are supported?
The app is available in 22 languages. News covers 40+ countries, such as Japan, Korea, the US, France and Spain, each in the local language, with slow reading and one-tap headline translation.
Does it work on iPhone, iPad, Android and computers?
The app runs on iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets. On a computer you can try it in your browser, but daily read-aloud, background listening and the full set of features are in the app.
